Lists and double opt-in
Create subscriber lists, and understand which signup paths require confirmation.
A list is a group of subscribers you send campaigns to. A contact's subscription to a list is tracked separately from the contact record itself, so the same contact can be subscribed to some lists and not others.
Creating a list
- Go to Newsletter and click New list.
- Enter a List name and click Create.
Subscribing someone — two different paths
How a subscriber gets added determines whether they're confirmed immediately or need to double opt in:
- Added by you, in the dashboard (open a list → Add subscriber) — goes straight to SUBSCRIBED. No confirmation email, since you're vouching for the address yourself.
- Signed up publicly (a WordPress newsletter block, or your own integration against the public subscribe endpoint) — starts as PENDING and gets a confirmation email. The subscriber only becomes SUBSCRIBED after clicking the confirmation link. Re-submitting an already-SUBSCRIBED address through the public endpoint is a silent no-op — it won't re-send a confirmation email or duplicate the subscription.
Subscriber statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
PENDING | Signed up publicly, hasn't confirmed yet |
SUBSCRIBED | Confirmed (or added directly by you) — will receive campaigns |
UNSUBSCRIBED | Opted out, via the unsubscribe link or removed by you |
BOUNCED | A campaign send to this address bounced |
COMPLAINED | Marked as spam by the recipient |
Removing a subscriber
Open the list, find the subscriber, and click Unsubscribe next to their row. This
sets their status to UNSUBSCRIBED rather than deleting the subscription record.
Deleting a list
The list's Danger zone has Delete list — this removes the list and its subscriptions, but not the underlying contacts.
